Ford has officially teased its upcoming entry-level electric pickup with a dedicated website and winter testing footage, ahead of a 2025 launch. The compact EV truck, potentially named Ranchero, slots into the market as a smaller alternative to the Maverick, sharing dimensions similar to the old Ford Ranger from the 1990s. The teaser campaign includes QR codes on camouflaged prototypes, directing viewers to a Ford-hosted site that dubs the truck a “unicorn” and features three videos showcasing its development. One clip shows the truck at a testing facility, followed by snowy terrain drives in Northern Michigan, while another highlights the simplified Universal EV platform assembly at the manufacturing plant. Ford senior software specialist Chris Kirkland provides commentary on the winter testing process, emphasizing refinement of stability, traction control, and electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS). The truck’s design leverages its electric powertrain for a short hood and steeply raked windshield to boost aerodynamics. While pricing and full specifications remain under wraps, Ford has confirmed a 2025 launch window and a starting price around $30,000, paired with a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. The model represents a strategic bet on Ford’s Universal EV platform amid broader EV investment pullbacks by rivals.
