Honda is recalling over 1 million CR-V and Accord models in the US because their factory-fitted emergency tire repair kits can eject their caps with enough force to injure bystanders. The recall covers 1,049,883 vehicles: 744,350 MY23–26 CR-V Hybrids, 305,013 Accord Hybrids from the same model years, and 340 MY25–26 CR-V Fuel Cell EVs. The issue stems from a pressure-relief valve that can fail if the kit’s nozzle is attached incorrectly. Honda says the valve was originally included to prevent leaks but ended up trapping excess pressure instead. Some valves were also mis-set during production, preventing them from venting properly. The automaker traced the defect to both design oversights and supplier manufacturing flaws. Since April 2023, Honda has logged 53 warranty claims and eight injury reports tied to the repair kit, with no fatalities reported. Owners will be asked to bring their vehicles to dealers for a free fix: either a new nozzle or a revised sealant bottle that removes the problematic one-way valve. The recall arrives just days after Honda issued another safety campaign for nearly 900,000 vehicles over rust-related suspension risks.
