Traton Group’s parent company, International Motors, announced on October 28 that it will offer customers two engine choices for its heavy‑duty trucks in 2027: one that meets the stricter Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) nitrogen‑oxide emissions standards effective January 1, 2027, and a current‑generation engine that satisfies existing regulations. The first customers are expected to receive the EPA ’27‑compliant engines in the second quarter of 2027.

International’s third‑quarter truck orders rose 43% year‑over‑year to 12,526 vehicles from 8,760 in the same period a year earlier, but fell 45% sequentially compared with the 22,924 sold in Q2 2026. Sales for the quarter increased 69% year‑over‑year to 16,483 vehicles from 9,753 in Q3 2025 and grew 26% compared with 13,130 trucks in Q2 2026. CEO Christian Levin said deliveries gained momentum in Q3 and that the company expects its strongest volumes in Q4, though supply‑chain challenges are creating additional pressure.

Traton’s North American division is preparing to add a second shift at its San Antonio assembly plant to meet rising demand, after already boosting output in 2026. The plant is slated to produce about 100 trucks a day in the fourth quarter of 2026, and that figure will nearly double once the second shift is operational, according to International President and CEO Mathias Carlbaum.

Production at International’s Escobedo plant in Mexico has also risen sharply; September output more than doubled year‑over‑year to 4,015 trucks from 1,895, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography. As a result, Traton raised its industry‑wide U.S., Canada and Mexico Class 8 truck sales forecast for 2026 to a range of 266,000–285,000 vehicles from the previous 259,000–284,000 range. Forecasts for Europe, South America and China were also increased.

Worldwide, Traton’s truck sales climbed 17% to 64,220 vehicles in the three months ended September 30, up from 54,929 a year earlier. Total truck orders for the quarter reached 57,538, a 14% rise over the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter rose 3% to $36.74 billion from $35.63 billion a year earlier, and profit increased 13.3% to $2.56 billion. All figures are reported in euros with conversions accurate as of October 28.
