Melton Truck Lines has announced a significant increase in mileage pay for all company drivers, with rates now ranging from 60 cents to 70 cents per mile. This raise, which the carrier describes as its largest driver pay increase, represents a $10 million investment aimed at attracting and retaining drivers while supporting customer service and capacity.
The new pay scale starts at 60 cents per mile for entry-level drivers and rises to 70 cents per mile for the most experienced drivers, with the increase ranging from 5 cents to 8 cents per mile. According to Bob Peterson, Melton chairman and CEO, the move is a well-deserved recognition of the company’s drivers, who have demonstrated an unmatched level of commitment and hard work.

In addition to the mileage-rate increase, Melton offers multiple ways for drivers to earn extra pay, including $100 tarp pay, fuel bonuses, career-path programs, and other incentives. The company also provides a flatbed securement training program, which provides hands-on instruction and preparation before a driver is assigned a late-model company truck.
This move follows similar announcements by other carriers, such as Maverick and Nussbaum, and is part of the company’s efforts to support its drivers and maintain its position as one of the largest for-hire carriers in North America, ranking No. 82 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list.
