Tata Motors is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming Tata Safari EV, which is expected to launch in January 2027. As the current leader in India’s electric passenger car segment with a market share of around 40%, Tata aims to cement its dominance with this new flagship EV. The Safari EV will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations and is built on the Acti.EV+ platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV.

While official specifications remain under wraps, reports indicate the SUV could feature battery pack options including 65 kWh, 75 kWh, and a larger 80 kWh battery pack on top trims, potentially delivering the highest range of any Tata electric vehicle to date. For comparison, the existing 75 kWh battery in the Harrier offers a claimed range of 627 km for the RWD variant and 622 km for the AWD variant. The Safari EV is expected to offer both RWD and AWD layouts.

Performance-wise, it could mirror the Harrier EV, which utilizes a single motor setup for RWD variants generating 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque, while the AWD variant combines a 158 PS front motor and a 238 PS rear electric motor for a total torque output of 504 Nm. Upon release, the Safari EV will compete directly with models like the Mahindra XEV 9S and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. Exterior design updates include a closed-off grille, aero-optimized alloy wheels, exclusive badging, refreshed lighting, and new color options, while retaining most styling elements from the ICE version.
Inside, the cabin is expected to feature a triple-screen layout seen on the Sierra EV, along with ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system, dual-zone climate control, and a powered tailgate. Additional expected equipment includes a 540-degree surround view camera, a Level 2 ADAS suite, wireless smartphone charging, connected car tech, and multiple driving modes. Pricing is expected to start at an introductory price of around Rs 20 lakh, with top variants reaching Rs 30-32 lakh.
