Renault India has launched the new Renault Duster Hybrid, marking its biggest and most long-awaited bet in the Indian market. Pricing starts at Rs 16.99 lakh (Ex-sh) for the range-topping Duster Hybrid, while the Emotion trim tops out at Rs 19.49 lakh (Ex-sh). In terms of pricing, only the Victoris is more affordable than the Duster Hybrid in the lower trims, while the Duster Hybrid undercuts all three Japanese rivals in higher trims using introductory pricing.

Size-wise, the Duster Hybrid ranks second to the Victoris in length, but it is significantly wider and taller than its rivals while offering a longer wheelbase and a larger boot. It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225-section tyres, standing an inch larger and one size wider than competitors. The Duster also features higher ground clearance and proper SUV proportions.
Under the hood, the Duster Hybrid packs a 1.4 kWh high-voltage battery—nearly double or more than double the capacity of its Japanese competitors. It uses a larger 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine rather than a 3-cylinder unit. The transmission features two ratios for the electric motor and four ratios for the engine, yielding a total of eight combinations. Performance claims include a 0-100 km/h sprint in under 10 seconds, a peak total system power of 158 bhp, electric motor torque of 208 Nm, and a claimed mileage output of 29 km/l.

To stay under the Rs 20 lakh (Ex-sh) mark, Renault has omitted certain features from the Hybrid variant, such as an auto-dimming IRVM, Level-2 ADAS, and 360-degree cameras (though Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and Victoris hybrids similarly omit ADAS). On the tech and comfort front, the Duster Hybrid features a built-in Google infotainment system, Qi2 standard wireless charging with a magnetic ring, and a 10.25-inch TFT cluster supporting full-screen maps. It also includes power-adjustable seats for both driver and co-driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot alerts, and frequency-dependent dampers exclusive to the Hybrid variants. Both the Duster and Victoris offer a powered tailgate.
