A Rivian R1T owner, who enjoyed towing his Airstream with the electric pickup, has switched to a gasoline-powered truck for his retirement road trips to Alaska and Canada. The owner, Kevin, praised the R1T’s stability and air suspension but found that the truck’s limited towing range and charging infrastructure made it less practical for long-distance travel. Despite the R1T’s capabilities, Kevin decided that a gasoline-powered truck would be better suited for his needs, citing the convenience of gas stations and the ability to tow his trailer without worrying about charging. Kevin’s decision highlights the challenges of long-distance electric vehicle travel, particularly when towing a trailer. While the R1T is capable of towing, its limited range and charging infrastructure can make it less practical for certain trips. However, another retired owner’s experience with a 28-foot Airstream between Vancouver Island and Tucson suggests that the R1T can still be a great choice for retirement travel, especially when overnight charging is dependable and the towing experience is a pleasure.
