Mahindra has officially patented the design for its Vision S SUV, which is expected to launch in 2027 as a sub-4m offering aimed at rivals like the Jimny.

The Vision S was the final concept to be patented among the four NU_IQ-based Vision concepts Mahindra unveiled last year, following the X, T, and SXT.

While production variants will see specific features and accessories vary, the overall design mirrors the concept with an upright front fascia, inverted L-shaped lighting enclosures, and an illuminated 6-slot grille layout.

The SUV features a rugged bull bar-styled bumper, underbody protection, and a clamshell bonnet, while design sketches highlight optional accessories such as limb risers, auxiliary front lights, and roof-mounted ladder and utility racks.

It utilizes sleek camera-based ORVMs in sketches, though test mules suggest production versions will receive more conventional units.

The beltline and roofline remain largely flat, while the rear showcases a spare tyre, a flat tailgate, a chunky bumper, and vertically stacked connected tail lamps.

Built on a monocoque construction rather than a traditional ladder-frame setup, the Vision S aims to deliver urban ride comfort and fuel efficiency while offering a boxier off-road stance for enthusiasts. Competitors in the segment include the Renault Bridger and the rumoured Tata Scarlet.

Inside, the cabin borrows heavily from models like the Thar Roxx and BE 6, featuring a large centrally mounted touchscreen, a digital instrument console, and a two-spoke steering wheel alongside physical buttons and knobs.

Equipment highlights include the next-generation AdrenoX OS with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a single-pane sunroof with an optional panoramic layout on higher trims, ventilated seats, and wireless charging. Safety tech includes Level-2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera setup.

Riding on the modular NU_IQ platform, the Vision S supports multiple powertrain options, starting with petrol and diesel variants—anticipated to include the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine from the XUV 3XO and the 1.5-litre diesel from the Thar OG—with EV and hybrid iterations expected to follow later.
