Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the revival of its legendary Pajero and Montero nameplates, both discontinued in 2021. The all-new Pajero will debut this fall as a proper off-roader built on a ladder-frame chassis derived from the Triton pickup. The Montero name will also return, likely targeting North American markets where the Pajero badge may not be used. Mitsubishi isn’t just resurrecting a single model—it’s launching an entire Pajero series, with at least two additional variants already in development. The flagship Pajero will feature four-wheel drive, a bespoke suspension setup, and a completely new interior designed for comfort rather than truck-like practicality. While the Triton offers a twin-turbo diesel 2.4-liter four-cylinder, the Montero is expected to get a gasoline engine or a plug-in hybrid setup if it arrives in the U.S. The Pajero lineup is part of Mitsubishi’s ambitious plan to introduce 13 new models by March 2032, spanning minivans, kei cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. Five of these will be hybrids, and another five will be fully electric. A sports car isn’t on the roadmap, reflecting the segment’s limited appeal. The Pajero/Montero’s global premiere is expected in the coming months, with sales slated to begin next year. The Pajero name carries immense historical weight for Mitsubishi, having been sold in over 170 countries across four generations and racking up more than 3.25 million units sold.
