Ford fired electrician Kurt Kromm, a 60-year-old diabetic employee with 11 years of service, after alleging he stole a $1.95 chocolate chip cookie from the company’s Kentucky Truck Plant canteen.
Kromm, who worked an average of 60 hours a week and earned over $200,000 per year, was terminated despite his claims that he paid for the cookie after a self-checkout machine failed.

He was offered his job back after providing bank statements showing the completed transaction, but the reimbursement for his lost wages was $5,000 short. Kromm has since secured a new, higher-paying job in his hometown in Wisconsin.
The incident has raised questions about Ford’s handling of the situation, with the company stating that they value their employees and try to be as fair as possible, but acknowledging that things could have been handled differently.

The Kentucky Truck Plant, which employs 9,000 people and generates $25 billion in revenue for Ford annually, is a significant facility for the company, producing models such as the Super Duty, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator.
