The DTM race weekend at the Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany, proved to be a tough outing for BMW M Motorsport and Team Schubert Motorsport. Local favourite Marco Wittmann and his teammate Kelvin van der Linde struggled with performance issues from the first practice session on the street circuit. Wittmann managed a top-ten finish in the second race, but van der Linde was sidelined after a heavy crash on Saturday that left him with only minor bruises. The incident involved a collision with Lamborghini driver Maximilian Paul, who suffered a fracture and was hospitalised. Wittmann retired early in Race 1 after a rear-left tyre failure, while van der Linde did not start on Sunday. In the drivers’ standings, Wittmann is now fifth and van der Linde twelfth, with Schubert Motorsport dropping to fourth in the team standings. The BMW M2 Cup, running as part of the DTM support programme, saw Michael Schrey secure another double victory, winning both races from pole position. Mika König and Christopher Holst completed the podium in both races. BMW works driver Jens Klingmann served as a coach on site. Post-race reactions highlighted the team’s disappointment with the lack of pace in the DTM, though they expressed relief that van der Linde escaped serious injury. The BMW M2 Cup performances were praised as exciting, with the Norisring’s street circuit setting providing a thrilling stage.
