The BMW Group has completed a $1.7 billion investment in its South Carolina operations, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to the United States. The company celebrated the occasion at the “Home of X” event, where it also premiered the new, fifth-generation BMW X5.

The new X5 will be the first vehicle to be offered with five drivetrain options, including internal combustion, battery electric, plug-in hybrid electric, diesel, and fuel cell electric powered by hydrogen. The BMW iX5 will be the first fully electric BMW to be assembled in the United States, starting in late 2026.

The investment has established the foundation for the assembly of fully electric BMW vehicles in South Carolina, with the company aiming to assemble at least six fully electric models in the United States by 2030. The completion of the $1.7 billion investment demonstrates BMW Group’s confidence in the United States and reinforces South Carolina’s role at the center of the company’s global operations.
