Stellantis NV plans to start selling a new Jeep model in Europe by 2030, which will be made in China. The large sport utility vehicle will be jointly produced with Dongfeng Motor Corp. at its facility in Wuhan. This move deepens Stellantis’ renewed China strategy after former CEO Carlos Tavares suggested ending manufacturing there in 2022. The new Jeep SUV will be launched alongside other models, including an all-electric Recon next year. Stellantis will have six Jeep models available in Europe by the end of the decade, compared to two now. The company has no plans to bring back the Wrangler in Europe due to strict emissions rules. Stellantis has sold about 280,000 Jeep Avengers in Europe since 2023 and also sells the Compass model in the region. The partnership with Dongfeng is part of Stellantis’ investment plans, which prioritize the Jeep brand as one of four key brands, along with Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat. The company is ramping up cooperation with Chinese companies, including Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., to stay competitive.
