The author’s 1984 Honda VF500C V30 Magna, a favorite bike that reached 104.532 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2009, needed a clutch seal replacement after 42 years and 23,480 miles. The hydraulic clutch actuator’s slave cylinder had leaked, losing all its fluid.
To fix this, the author obtained an official 1984-85 Honda V30 Magna service manual and sourced parts from David Silver Spares, including the oil seal, gasket, and piston seal, for $30.44.
The process involved removing the slave cylinder, cleaning the old gasket off the engine and cylinder, and replacing the seals.

The author notes that working on old bikes can be time-consuming and challenging, with tasks like removing stuck dowel pins and cleaning accumulated crud.
With patience and the right tools, the author was able to replace the clutch seal and get the bike ready for riding again.
