The 2002 Chrysler Prowler is one of the most gloriously impractical cars ever built, and a $23,950 asking price on Craigslist has us wondering if it’s a steal or just a steal of your soul. This retro-styled roadster isn’t for the faint of heart—or the practical-minded.
Originally debuted as a Plymouth show car before Chrysler inherited it, the Prowler is a rolling homage to the wild hot rods of the 1970s, complete with a pointy prow, massive tires, and a body that screams “I don’t care about aerodynamics.” It even outlasted the Plymouth brand by a year, surviving into 2001 and 2002 under the Chrysler badge before being axed in favor of the Mercedes-based Chrysler Crossfire—a move the writer compares to swapping George Clooney for George Costanza.

Under the hood, there’s no V8 to be found; instead, it’s powered by an all-aluminum 24-valve 3.5-liter V6 that churns out 253 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque.

That’s enough to hustle the Prowler from 0-60 mph in under six seconds, thanks to a four-speed automatic with a manual shift mode (though no stick shift was ever offered).

The drivetrain is mounted in a riveted frame that leans on ALCOA aluminum, and the transaxle sits at the rear, connected via an open driveshaft.
The ad claims the Prowler has “exactly 62,000 miles” and “runs and drives perfect,” with no mechanical issues and “near new tires.” Aesthetically, this one’s painted in Chrysler’s “Inca Gold,” a hue that extends to the dashboard’s center panel, with chrome accents, a slim roadster roof, and a subtle yellow pinstripe tracing the body lines.

The interior mixes gray leather with plenty of plastic—cheap by 2002 standards, but clean and comfortable today.
The seller, moving to Belize, insists the Prowler is too impractical for daily driving, hence the $23,950 price tag.

The question is: Is this a fair valuation for a car that’s as much a rolling art piece as it is a driver, or is the market for these oddball Mopar halo rides still cooling off?
