BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team delivered a masterclass in resilience at the seventh round of the 2026 FIM Superbike World Championship in Misano, Italy. The weekend was defined by grit, determination, and standout performances despite physical setbacks. Miguel Oliveira (POR) made a triumphant return to racing aboard his BMW M 1000 RR after a serious shoulder injury sustained in May at the Balaton Park Circuit. After an intensive rehab programme and final medical clearance, Oliveira pushed through pain and scorching summer heat to deliver a sensational performance. Starting 11th on Saturday, he clawed his way to an eighth-place finish in race one, then stunned the field with a sixth-place finish in Sunday’s Superpole race. Though he retired from Sunday’s second feature race due to lingering physical limitations, his weekend proved the Portuguese rider’s fighting spirit remains undimmed. Michael van der Mark (NED) continued to shine in his role as substitute rider, stepping in for Oliveira at recent rounds in Most and MotorLand Aragón. Fresh off a victory at the FIM Endurance World Championship race in Spa-Francorchamps just days earlier, van der Mark seamlessly transitioned back to the WorldSBK squad. A technical issue sidelined him early in race one, but he bounced back on Sunday, climbing from 16th on the grid to secure 11th in the Superpole race and a gritty ninth-place finish in the final race. Danilo Petrucci (ITA), recovering from a fractured coccyx sustained at Most, supported the team from the garage during his home event. His return to competition is targeted for the next WorldSBK round at Donington Park (10–12 July). Team leadership praised the weekend’s efforts. Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, hailed Oliveira’s performance as “truly outstanding,” noting his ability to set competitive lap times and finish inside the top ten despite significant pain and incomplete fitness. He also commended van der Mark’s adaptability and the testing work completed under pressure. Christian Gonschor, Technical Director, highlighted the strong potential of both the bike and rider, emphasizing the value of the weekend’s data collection. With a four-week break ahead, the team will focus on rider fitness before regrouping for Donington, where both regular riders are expected to be back in action.
