The Slate Truck, starting at $24,950 plus destination fee, is the least expensive new EV on the market. However, its sparse interior and loud cabin have left some unimpressed.

Alternatively, YouTuber B_Serious has been working on converting a 1982 Toyota Pickup into an EV. The project uses a Netgain Warp 9 DC motor, a custom battery pack with five cells from a Tesla Model S, and a Zilla motor controller.

The battery pack provides an estimated 75 to 85 miles of range, and the truck still uses its original ignition and 12-volt battery. While the project is complex and time-consuming, it offers a unique DIY experience.

The cost of the project is not specified, but it could be an interesting comparison to the price of a Slate Truck.
