VW Weighs Selling Ducati in Asset Review to Streamline Portfolio

Volkswagen AG is considering selling motorcycle manufacturer Ducati as part of a sweeping overhaul of its portfolio. The Italian brand, known for its high-performance bikes, is among the 600 businesses being reviewed by the German automaker. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner stated that no decision has been made, but the review supports Volkswagen’s effort to streamline operations. Ducati, which generated €925 million in revenue last year, may be worth around 1.25 billion euros. The potential sale would help Volkswagen focus on carmaking and make the company more competitive. Audi acquired Ducati in 2012, and the brand has since strengthened its position in motorcycle racing, winning six consecutive MotoGP constructors’ championships. However, its margins typically fall short of Volkswagen’s 9% target. Separately, Audi is studying options to manufacture vehicles in the US, including using capacity at an existing Volkswagen factory or at Scout Motors’ new plant.
