This 1979 Jeep Cherokee Looks Stock, Then You Find The 825-HP V10

A 1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief has been transformed into a restomod with a 9.0-liter Viper V10 engine producing 825 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The build, executed by Texas-based Vigilante, retains classic Jeep aesthetics while integrating modern performance and comfort features.

The exterior features two-tone white-and-blue paint with 1970s-style side graphics, BFGoodrich tires, and an Aston Martin-inspired paint finish.

Under the hood, the naturally aspirated Viper V10 replaces the original inline-six, routed through a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual, an Atlas II transfer case, and heavy-duty Dana axles for four-wheel drive.

Inside, the cabin sports blue Levi’s denim upholstery, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, premium audio, and extensive sound deadening.

The project faced a setback when an oil line failure led to an engine seizure, but the V10 was rebuilt with new bearings and reinstalled. The restomod is currently listed on Bring a Trailer, with bidding approaching six figures.

The build stands out for balancing high performance with subtle, cohesive styling that avoids over-the-top excess.
