The Cheapest New 200-MPH Car You Can Buy Right Now Is A $73,495 Chevy Corvette

Chevrolet has just turned the entry-level 2027 Corvette Stingray into the most affordable way to crack the 200-mph barrier in North America.

The updated C8 starts at $73,495 and now runs a brand-new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 that cranks out 535 HP and 520 lb-ft of torque. That’s a 45-HP bump over the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2, and the torque figure jumps by 55 lb-ft. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The new engine, paired with a higher 13.0:1 compression ratio and a continuously variable oil pump, pushes the Stingray’s top speed to 200 mph (322 km/h)—a six-mph gain over the previous model.

The 0-60 mph sprint drops to 2.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile is dispatched in 11.0 seconds at 124 mph.

The numbers were verified on a standard narrow-body 1LT coupe, though GM warns that the Z51 Performance Package’s extra downforce could trim top speed.

The Stingray’s 200-mph claim makes it cheaper than any other new car in the segment, undercutting the next-cheapest option—the $100,000 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing sedan, which tops out at 205 mph.

German rivals don’t come close: the Porsche 911 Turbo S matches the Corvette’s 200-mph capability but starts at $270,300.

The milestone was announced on June 30, the 73rd anniversary of the first production Corvette rolling off the line in Flint, Michigan.

The original C1, with its inline-six, peaked at 105 mph; the small-block V8 version that followed pushed that to 118–120 mph, underscoring how far the nameplate has come.
