One German Sedan Outperforms Every Tesla in Battery Health After 93,000 Miles

A comprehensive study by Aviloo, the largest independent study of used EV batteries, has revealed that top-performing electric vehicles (EVs) lose less than 5% of their range after 93,205 miles of driving. The study analyzed over 500,000 battery tests and found that the Mercedes-Benz CLA retained 94% of its battery health, outperforming all Tesla models, including the Model Y, which retained just 90.3% of its battery capacity. Other strong performers included the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Audi Q8 e-tron, and BMW i4. The study’s results demonstrate that current EV batteries are reliable and that fears about battery degradation should not deter potential buyers. However, it’s essential to note that individual results may vary, and the study’s findings are based on median values across all vehicles. The data shows that good and bad examples of the same car can have battery health ratings that vary by as much as 13.5%. The study’s findings are encouraging for EV buyers, indicating that battery degradation is not a significant concern for most models.
