Marc Marquez stands on the verge of potentially securing his 10th MotoGP championship, a milestone that would elevate him to the most successful MotoGP champion of the modern era and surpass Valentino Rossi’s championship tally by one. As debates between the two racing icons continue, four-time Grand Prix world champion Jorge Martínez Aspar has weighed in on the rivalry. Aspar holds three world titles in the 80cc class and one in the 125cc class, alongside numerous championships won as owner and manager of the CFMoto Aspar Team. Having raced against Rossi in the 125cc class at Brno, where Aspar finished second to the Italian by 0.245 seconds, his perspective carries immense weight. During a recent interview on the Fast & Curious podcast, Aspar discussed Ángel Nieto, Valentino Rossi, and Marc Márquez, while also touching upon the rising significance of telemetry, the decline of paddock spontaneity, and the financial hurdles faced by riders in lower classes. However, the standout moment arrived when Aspar compared Rossi and Márquez directly. Aspar stated that they are very different riders, noting that Valentino was perhaps more well-rounded. Yet, he added that Marc is infinitely faster. Aspar expressed massive admiration for how Marquez has navigated his career, his aggressiveness, his relentless pursuit of the limit, and particularly how he has fought back from all his injuries. He noted that Marquez deserves studying from a psychological standpoint due to his incredible strength, pointing out that while Valentino was also special in that regard, the adversity Marquez has faced and conquered inspires immense respect.
