Mercedes-AMG Junior Driver Tom Kalender Scores His First DTM Podium at Nürburgring

Mercedes-AMG Junior driver Tom Kalender achieved his first DTM podium at the Nürburgring, finishing second in a flawless race. The 18-year-old driver, competing for the Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf, started from 11th position and worked his way up to the podium. Kalender’s success was a highlight for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, despite a disappointing Sunday that saw Lucas Auer and Maro Engel crash out of the race. Jules Gounon, who secured pole position with a new lap record, was also hindered by a penalty and finished 14th. The weekend’s results saw Maro Engel maintain his lead in the driver standings with 160 points, while the Mercedes-AMG Team Winward Racing leads the team standings with 231 points. Mercedes-AMG also tops the manufacturer standings with 328 points. The next DTM event will take place at the Sachsenring from September 11 to 13. Thomas Jäger, Sporting Manager DTM at Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, praised Kalender’s performance, saying he delivered a strong and error-free drive. Kalender himself was thrilled with his first DTM podium, thanking his team and Mercedes-AMG for their support.
