Volkswagen has quietly pulled the plug on the Tiguan R-Line in India, removing the premium mid-size SUV from its official website. The 5-seater model was originally launched in the country in April 2025 as a CBU import. While Volkswagen has not issued an official statement regarding the discontinuation, its last recorded price was Rs 47.11 lakh (ex-showroom). Following this move, the brand’s Indian SUV lineup now consists solely of the Taigun and the Tayron.

Buyers shopping for a premium mid-size SUV from Volkswagen can now look toward the Tayron lineup. The Tayron R-Line is priced at Rs 47.74 lakh (ex-showroom), sitting very close to the discontinued Tiguan R-Line’s price point. Unlike the imported Tiguan, the Tayron R-Line is brought in via the CKD route and locally assembled at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, offering the flexibility of three-row seating. Volkswagen also offers the Tayron Life, a 5-seater variant of the larger Tayron with expanded second-row space and a larger boot, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Under the hood, the discontinued Tiguan R-Line shared its powertrain with the Tayron R-Line. It featured a 2.0L turbo petrol engine producing 201 bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. Power was routed through a 7-speed DSG transmission, with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD system fitted as standard.
