Chinese equipment brand Zoomlion has unveiled its new ultra-high-horsepower hybrid tractor at the China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition, claiming it is the world’s most powerful. The Zoomlion 9DX hybrid tractor delivers more than 1,600 HP while cutting fuel consumption and emissions.

The machine combines the pulling power of a conventional diesel engine with the efficiency, accuracy, and instant torque of an electric drive, aiming to lower operating costs without requiring industrial farming operations to abandon diesel entirely. The 9DX features an 800V hybrid electric powertrain and a continuously variable transmission that delivers a peak torque of 7,200 Nm, which is approximately 5,300 lb-ft.

To put that power down, the tractor uses a four-track tank-drive system riding on Zoomlion’s in-house developed 762 mm or roughly 30-inch wide tracks designed to distribute weight for maximum traction and minimum soil compaction. These high-traction treads allow the machine to reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h across grades and slopes of up to 12 degrees.
Additionally, the tractor is equipped with a high-capacity hydraulic system capable of delivering 636 liters per minute of flow, or about 170 GPM, enabling it to operate heavy-duty implements such as ultra-wide seeders and variable-rate fertilizer applicators. The 9DX was showcased at an exhibition hosting over 3,000 exhibitors and vendors, where AGCO director of global electronic and electrical engineering Nicolas Meunier noted to Chinese State news agency Xinhua that the country has transitioned from producing low-horsepower tractors to building massive machines.
While specific official battery specs for the 9DX were not detailed, Zoomlion has developed an 800V modular battery pack system for other equipment that scales from 140 to 800 kWh of capacity, alongside top-shelf tractors featuring an agricultural version of Cummins’ 15-liter turbodiesel. The debut of the 9DX adds to a record year for Zoomlion, following strong early export quarters to Germany, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
