FAW‑Volkswagen’s Jetta M6 EV, the first electric model from the Jetta brand, made a splash in China on 22 October, amassing more than 10,000 locked orders in just 19 hours. The Jetta marque, a budget line for the Chinese market that previously offered only combustion‑engine cars, now positions itself as an affordable EV option for cash‑strapped buyers.

The M6 starts at 79,800 yuan (about 11,900 USD) and is available in two powertrain configurations. The entry‑level trim is powered by a 113 kW (152 HP) front motor paired with a 42.9 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering 465 km of CLTC range (approximately 377 km WLTP). The higher trim ups the front motor to 145 kW (194 HP) and adds a 51.9 kWh battery, boosting CLTC range to 555 km (about 450 km WLTP) and cutting the 0‑100 km/h time from 8.3 to 6.8 seconds. All trims are front‑wheel drive.

Both battery packs are supplied by CALB, and every M6 is equipped with Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip, which runs the “GAIA 2.0 World Model.” The top trim offers Level 2 assisted‑driving system (ADS) features, including Navigate on Autopilot (NoA) for urban and high‑speed scenarios. FAW‑Volkswagen has pledged to compensate owners for any ADS‑related incidents or collisions within the first year of ownership.

The M6 also boasts a built‑in fold‑flat double bed, created by folding both front seats flat to form a long, level surface—an attractive feature for rideshare drivers who need a place to rest during charging stops. The sedan supports vehicle‑to‑load (V2L) output of up to 3.5 kW, making it a viable budget option for camping.

Dimensions are 4,806 mm long, 1,868 mm wide, 1,500 mm tall, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. The front uses McPherson struts and the rear a torsion‑bar suspension.

The 10,000‑order milestone was achieved with a deposit requirement of 3,000 to 5,000 yuan (roughly 450 to 650 USD) per vehicle, ensuring buyers cannot back out without forfeiting their deposit. Source: CarNewsChina
