Toyota is conducting a voluntary safety recall involving certain model year 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles in the United States, affecting approximately 31,000 vehicles. A fault can occur in an electronic control unit (ECU) for the plug-in hybrid system, which can cause the system to shut down while driving. This issue can lead to a loss of motive power at higher speeds and increase the risk of a crash. To resolve the problem, Toyota dealers will update the software of the affected ECU free of charge. Owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by early December 2026. Vehicle owners can check if their specific vehicle is impacted by visiting Toyota.com/recall or NHTSA.gov/recalls and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information, or by contacting the Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331.
