Hyundai Recalls 96,310 SUVs Over Faulty Instrument Panel Displays

Hyundai is recalling 96,310 SUVs due to a critical software flaw that can cause the instrument panel display to go blank while driving. The recall covers the 2025–2026 Hyundai Tucson, including both hybrid variants. According to the automaker, a software logic error between the instrument panel and the head-up display (HUD) can trigger an intermittent reboot of the screen during operation. When this happens, drivers lose access to essential gauges like the speedometer and fuel gauge, as well as critical vehicle notifications.

The defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Hyundai initiated the investigation in July 2025 after a customer reported a display failure. Over the following 10 months, the company traced the issue to an intermittent connection problem with the HUD external harness, which could force the screens to reboot. The recall was issued earlier this month.

Hyundai states it is not aware of any crashes, fires, injuries, or fatalities linked to the defect. Affected owners will be instructed to visit a Hyundai dealership, where technicians will update the vehicle’s instrument panel software. Hyundai is also developing an over-the-air (OTA) update that will be released once ready. The recall highlights the growing challenge automakers face as they integrate increasingly complex software systems into vehicles.
