BMW Isn’t Finished with the M2 — Another New Version Allegedly on the Way

BMW’s smallest M car, the M2, still has surprises left. A well-connected insider claims the performance coupe could spawn yet another variant, following hot on the heels of the recently launched M2 xDrive. The new version isn’t expected to arrive soon, as the all-wheel-drive M2 has only just hit the market. According to a source who typically nails these predictions, the M2’s story isn’t over yet. While the exact flavor remains under wraps, industry chatter points to three likely directions. First up: a return of the M2 CS, possibly with a manual transmission, mirroring the recent North American launch of the three-pedal M3 CS. Second, BMW might expand the Competition Sport lineup with an M2 CS xDrive, tapping into the inline-six’s dual-axle prowess already seen in the M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, and M4 Coupe CS models. Third—and perhaps most tantalizing—an M2 CSL could arrive, a stripped-down, rear-seat-free sibling to the M4 CSL. Unlike its bigger brother, which stuck to an automatic, the M2 CSL could revive the manual gearbox for one last hurrah before BMW phases it out. With M2 production allegedly running until mid-2029, Munich has plenty of runway to refine the formula.
