Mercedes-AMG Motorsport celebrates strong mid-season GT performance with title hopes across global series

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport’s customer racing division is enjoying a dominant mid-season run in 2026, with its teams and drivers leading multiple GT championships worldwide. Kundensportleiter Stefan Wendl called the program’s progress “incredibly proud” in an interview, highlighting the Mercedes-AMG GT3’s enduring competitiveness since its 2016 debut and 2020 update. The season has already delivered standout endurance victories, including the overall win at the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring in May, the GTD-class triumph at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, the Bathurst 12 Hour in February, and a repeat 24-hour success at Fuji Speedway in June. Mercedes-AMG’s customer teams are now positioned as title favorites in several prestigious series. In the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC), Maro Engel (GER) leads the drivers’ standings after three of five rounds, ahead of Luca Stolz (GER) and Maxime Martin (BEL). Engel also shares the top spot in the GT World Challenge Europe overall standings alongside Lucas Auer (AUT), with Winward Racing leading the team classification. The trio of Auer, Engel, and Stolz is in contention for the Endurance Cup, while Daniel Juncadella (ESP) sits third in the Sprint Cup after three of five weekends. In the GT World Challenge America, Mercedes-AMG leads all three categories: Michai Stephens (USA) and Mikaël Grenier (CAN) top the drivers’ standings, JMF Motorsports leads the teams’, and Mercedes-AMG tops the manufacturers’ table. Tigani Motorsport leads the team classification in the GT World Challenge Australia. Mercedes-AMG also tops the overarching SRO manufacturers’ standings. In the DTM, Mercedes-AMG occupies every top position: Engel leads the drivers’ standings, Winward Racing leads the teams’, and Mercedes-AMG leads the manufacturers’. In the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Philip Ellis (SUI) and Russell Ward (USA) sit second in the GTD standings with three races remaining, as does Winward Racing in the team classification. In the 24H SERIES European Series, GetSpeed Team JR286 leads the teams’ standings, while Patrick Liddy (USA) tops the drivers’. Motopark leads the International GT Open team classification, with Maximilian Götz (GER) and Christian Mansell (AUS) second in the drivers’ standings. In the GT2 European Series, Mercedes-AMG customer teams and drivers also lead: Jay Mo Härtling (GER) and David Thilenius (USA) top the drivers’ standings, SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm leads the teams’, and NM Racing sits third. Beyond the on-track success, the program has reached two historic milestones: the 1,000th overall victory was secured on July 10 by Vincent Iogna (FRA) of Team KRT in the Ultimate GT Sprint Cup at Mugello, and the 1,000th pole position was claimed on July 26 by Marchy Lee and Rio (both FIA) of UNO Racing Team in the second race of the China GT Championship at Zhuhai International Circuit. Wendl emphasized the program’s team spirit and consistency as the foundation of its success, noting that early-season momentum from Daytona and Bathurst has carried through the year. He also highlighted the high-profile participation of Max Verstappen in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 race and his team’s switch to Mercedes-AMG Motorsport as key moments that amplified global interest in GT racing. With several championships still undecided, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport enters the decisive autumn phase aiming to convert its strong positions into further titles.
