Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a remote parking feature that could appear in future Ford vehicles, according to Ford Authority. The patent was filed on April 2, 2023, published on July 21, 2026, and assigned serial number 12687852. This latest filing adds to Ford’s growing list of patented parking innovations, which includes a remote park assist feature with augmented reality, an automated valet parking system, and an illumination method for remote-controlled parking maneuvers. The new system proposes a remote parking solution where drivers exit the vehicle and park it using a smartphone app or key fob, simplifying tight-space parking. The patent outlines the use of spatial location data to track the driver’s position relative to both the vehicle and the parking spot, enhancing safety by preventing collisions with people or other vehicles while improving parking accuracy. Ford emphasized in a statement that patent filings are a routine part of business to protect new ideas and build intellectual property, but they do not necessarily indicate future product plans. The company reiterated its commitment to prioritizing customer needs in product development and marketing decisions.
