Chilean golf star Joaquín Niemann will make his debut at the BMW International Open, teeing off at Golfclub München Eichenried from July 1–5, 2026. The 27-year-old, widely tipped as a future major champion, joins a stacked field featuring top-tier professionals and rising amateurs. Niemann, who spent 44 weeks atop the amateur world rankings before turning pro, has already claimed 21 tournament victories, including two on the PGA TOUR and one on the DP World Tour. His resume also includes top-ten finishes at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, as well as a tie for 18th at last month’s PGA Championship, cementing his status among the global elite. Tournament organisers have hailed his addition as a major draw for German golf fans eager to see the rising star in action. The BMW International Open, now in its 37th edition, will also feature a host of established names. South Korea’s Byeong-Hun An (KOR), a former US Amateur Champion and 2015 BMW PGA Championship winner, brings experience and pedigree to the field. England’s Marco Penge, fresh off a stellar 2025 season where he finished ahead of Rory McIlroy in the rankings, will be among the favourites. Mexican Abraham Ancer and Colombia’s Sebastián Muñoz, both PGA TOUR winners, will add firepower, alongside Spain’s José Luis “Josele” Ballester, a 20-year-old prodigy who has already claimed multiple amateur titles, including the US Amateur Championship in 2024. The field is rounded out by two German amateurs, Finn Kölle and Thomas Georg Schmidt, who will make their tournament debuts. Last year’s standout amateur performance came from Tim Wiedemeyer, who finished 17th, providing a benchmark for Kölle and Schmidt. Tickets for the event are now on sale, with options including discounted rates for young people (15–17), students, and people with disabilities. Admission includes free shuttle buses from Ismaning S-Bahn station to the golf club and free parking, subject to availability. Children and young people up to age 14 enter for free daily, while the Pro-Am tournament on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, is also free to attend. For the first time, the 2026 edition will offer an after-work ticket valid from 3 pm on Thursday or Friday at half the price of a day ticket.
