Reckless Driver in Inman, SC, Makes Illegal U-Turn and Crashes into 4Runner in Aggressive Lane Change

A dashcam video shared on Reddit shows an elderly driver making an illegal U-turn across multiple lanes of traffic on Asheville Highway in Inman, SC, before making a no-look lane change and crashing into a 4Runner. The incident occurred on August 15, 2026, and was shared by the owner of the 4Runner, who was headed eastbound on the highway. The driver of the blue Chevrolet 1500 Pickup made a U-turn from the far right lane, across at least four lanes of traffic, before making a sharp left turn and sideswiping the 4Runner. The 4Runner’s owner came to a complete stop in the center turn lane, but the damage was already done. The driver of the blue pickup caused significant damage to the 4Runner, including the passenger side panel, running board, wheels, headlight, and side view mirror. The owner of the 4Runner is having trouble finding a body shop that will take on the repairs due to the customization on the front of the vehicle. According to South Carolina law, an illegal U-turn is punishable by up to $100 and/or 30 days, and is assessed four points as an unlawful turning violation. A no-look/unsafe lane change can carry up to $100 and/or 30 days and generally two points for shifting lanes without a safety precaution.
