Green SM, a Vietnam-based ride-hailing service, has launched a fleet of 500 VinFast VF8 EVs in Los Angeles. Unlike platforms like Uber and Lyft that rely on gig workers using personal vehicles, Green SM owns its entire fleet and employs fully trained, full-time drivers. The cyan-colored electric cars can be booked via the Green SM app, a hotline, or hailed directly on the street. Pricing depends on time and distance driven, and new customers currently receive 50 percent off their first five rides along with a free Green Pass membership, which provides 10 monthly vouchers for 30 percent off rides. While Green SM already boasts 850 million completed rides across parts of Europe and Asia, this marks the company’s debut in the United States. The service utilizes the five-seat, zero-emission VinFast VF8. According to Green SM’s U.S. CEO Hoang Thanh Hang, the company aims to stand out through intentional customer interactions and service quality alongside its eco-friendly fleet. VinFast, while highly popular in Vietnam, has experienced slow sales in the U.S. since debuting in 2023, with only 389 vehicles registered in the United States between January and July 2026 according to Automotive News. Green SM’s rollout could serve as a valuable platform for public perception of VinFast vehicles in the U.S. market.
