Traveling internationally for motorcycle tests presents a distinct packing challenge, particularly when it comes to footwear. Full-on adventure boots offer excellent protection, but they are bulky, heavy, and uncomfortable for walking around at the end of a long day. This dilemma arose during a 2024 trip to Scotland to test the Triumph Tiger 1200 in predictably rainy conditions. Since the test involved road riding only, the Xpd X-Venture H2Out boots were packed instead of heavy adventure gear.

Despite the X-Venture name, these are street touring boots rather than adventure boots. For aggressive off-road riding, a taller, stiffer adventure boot with substantial shin protection and buckle closures is preferred. However, many trips mix long pavement stretches with dirt roads and moderate off-road riding. For that type of use, the X-Venture H2Out makes sense.

Out of the box, the X-Ventures offered immediate comfort without a break-in period, a major plus when thousands of miles from home. The boots feature Xpd’s Air Tech Sensitive Fit antibacterial, replaceable footbed, backed by a molded nylon insole known as the Differentiated Flexibility Area. This setup provides solid support without feeling overly stiff while walking or operating controls. The fit runs slightly tight for a normal boot size, easily remedied with a thinner pair of socks. Soft polymer memory foam padding surrounds the foot and ankle, complemented by a padded 3D Air mesh collar, making them significantly more comfortable off the bike than typical off-road adventure boots.

Protection is handled through molded TPU protectors covering the shin and ankle areas, alongside reinforced toes and heels. The microfiber outer is abrasion-resistant with reinforced sides, and a plastic gear-shift pad protects the upper. Instead of external buckles or massive shin plates, the boots use a conventional zip closure backed by a Velcro flap for quick and easy gear-up.

The vulcanized rubber sole provides a high-grip platform on the footpegs while retaining feel for the brake and shift levers, as well as dependable traction on wet pavement and gravel. For weather protection, the boots utilize Xpd’s waterproof and breathable H2Out tubular membrane combined with a waterproof-treated microfiber upper, keeping feet warm and dry through cold, wet conditions in Scotland without any water intrusion. Reflective inserts are positioned at the front and rear of the boot, along with additional reflective material in the front logo plate.

The Xpd X-Venture H2Out boots sit between lightweight road-touring boots and full-blown adventure boots. They are suited for adventure riding involving pavement and easier dirt roads, offering more protection than a lightweight street boot without feeling like a ski boot.
