Volvo’s decade-old XC40 is getting another major facelift for 2027, with spy shots confirming the compact SUV is heading for a second round of updates.
The biggest change inside will be a new portrait-oriented infotainment screen lifted directly from the EX30, replacing the current layout.
The exterior gets a freshened front end with slimmer headlights featuring Thor’s hammer LED graphics, a revised grille hidden under camouflage, and a cleaner front bumper without side intakes.

The rear features flatter tailgate surfacing, smaller reflectors on the bumper, and updated LED taillight graphics under black tape. Dual tailpipes are currently provisional and will be replaced with a final design. Inside, Volvo may introduce new materials and upholstery options alongside the new screen.
The powertrain lineup will largely carry over the existing mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric (EX40) options, though combustion engines could receive updates to meet tightening European emissions standards. Chassis tuning may also be refined for a smoother ride.
The facelifted XC40 is expected to debut in 2027, the same year the nameplate celebrates its tenth anniversary.
The electric EX40 will mirror most updates but retain distinct styling cues to differentiate it from the combustion models.

The refreshed XC40 will compete in the compact SUV segment against rivals including the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and Alfa Romeo Tonale.
