Nissan has embedded five heritage-inspired Easter eggs in the 2027 Z, rewarding fans who know the model’s history.

The most visible change is a split grille up front, designed to echo the original S30-generation 240Z.

Nissan’s product planners kept the cooling performance of the previous design while adding a horizontal bar that strengthens the resemblance to the iconic first-generation car.

“When we launched this generation, there was a lot of discussion around the front face and the big grille for cooling,” said Paul Hawson, director of Advanced Product Planning & Strategy at Nissan North America.

“We’ve been able to maintain that cooling but have leaned further into the nostalgia by adding a horizontal bar through the mouth so it looks more like the S30 generation.” Another subtle nod is the replacement of the Nissan badge on the nose with a Z emblem, mirroring the look of earlier generations like the S30, S130, Z31, and Z32.

Performance models get new 19-inch RAYS alloy wheels inspired by the Z31-generation 300ZX from the 1980s.

The ten-spoke design features a star-like pattern that balances modern styling with retro flair, while the thin spokes showcase the large brake rotors and red calipers. Color choices also play a role in the Easter egg hunt.

Buyers can opt for Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic, a deep green inspired by Grand Prix Green from the original 240Z. Nissan says engineers used ultra-fine yellow and blue pigments to create a fade-resistant finish.

Inside, a new tan interior pays homage to the S30, complementing the black cabin materials on the upper dash and doors.

“The tan interior provides a sophisticated impression that contrasts nicely with the black cabin materials on the upper dash and doors,” said Shinichiro Irie, program design director at Nissan.

Sport and Performance models feature a new digital gauge cluster startup animation that salutes every previous Z generation before settling into normal operation. “When you start up the car, you’ll notice a new startup sequence. It includes previous Z generations popping out in an animation,” Hawson explained.

“It’s more nostalgia – we’re trying to pay our respects to the generations before.” While these changes don’t improve outright performance, they deepen the 2027 Z’s connection to its storied past, making it even more appealing to enthusiasts.
