Jaguar’s Radical New EV Type 01 Unveils in October with a “Mind-Blowing” NYC Debut

Jaguar is pulling the wraps off its highly anticipated Type 01 electric GT in New York this October, marking the production debut of a model that has drawn both fierce criticism and cautious optimism. The world premiere will unfold during a “mind-blowing launch” event in the Big Apple, as confirmed by Lennard Hoornik, Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief Growth Officer, during the 2026 JLR Investor Day. The timing is tight—less than two years after the Type 00 concept first surfaced in December 2024—but Jaguar insists the wait will be worth it. The company has faced backlash over delays and the car’s polarizing design, as well as its electric-only powertrain, but Hoornik claims the tide has turned.

“My strong feeling is that if you’ve got a great proposition, you’ve got a great emotion, then there will be great numbers coming out,” he said, adding that the initially “extremely negative sentiment” has flipped to positive. The Type 01 is a stately grand tourer, stretching 204.7 inches (5.2 meters) long with a commanding 126-inch (3.2-meter) wheelbase, riding on standard 23-inch wheels. Its dramatic silhouette includes charging ports on both front fenders for easy access, though outward visibility is compromised by tiny side windows and the absence of a rear window. Jaguar plans to offset this with a suite of cameras.

Under the skin, the Type 01 packs three electric motors churning out more than 986 horsepower and 959 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of torque, mated to a confirmed 120-kWh battery capable of 350-kW fast charging. Range estimates sit at about 400 miles (644 km) per EPA standards and up to 430 miles (692 km) under WLTP. The stakes couldn’t be higher: Jaguar has abandoned its entire internal combustion lineup, betting its future solely on EVs. The company is targeting wealthy buyers willing to spend well over $100,000, though no official price has been disclosed.

With no plans to return to gasoline engines, the Type 01 isn’t just a new model—it’s a make-or-break moment for Jaguar’s electric ambitions.
