The Ferrari You’d Never Recognize Weighs Less Than A Mazda MX-5 Miata

A one-off Ferrari that looks nothing like a classic Prancing Horse is heading to auction in the U.S.

The Conciso, a radical rebody of a 1980s Ferrari 328 GTS, strips away nearly 800 lbs of weight with a hand-built aluminum shell, leaving it lighter than a modern Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The transformation was executed by Germany’s Michalak Design without any involvement from Ferrari, preserving the original 3.2-liter V8 powertrain but reshaping the car’s identity entirely.

The Conciso debuted at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show before crossing the Atlantic, where it changed hands multiple times before undergoing a full restoration costing over €50,000 ($57,100) in 2022–2023.

The restoration included a complete repaint in Rosso Corsa and Gunmetal Gray, with the paint job alone costing more than €23,000 ($26,300).

The car’s curb weight now sits at just 1,960 lbs (889 kg), a staggering 800 lbs (363 kg) lighter than the stock 328 GTS and roughly 381 lbs (173 kg) under a current Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The weight loss transforms the driving experience: the 0–60 mph (96 km/h) sprint is estimated to drop to 5 seconds, while top speed climbs to 170 mph (274 km/h).

The Conciso’s mechanical underpinnings remain untouched, including the 3.2-liter V8 mated to its original transmission.

The car’s obscure status hasn’t stopped it from gaining attention—it appeared on Jay Leno’s Garage in 2019.

Now, the mid-engine Ferrari is listed for sale through RM Sotheby’s Sealed auction platform, though the expected sale price remains undisclosed. The last recorded auction price in 2018 was $109,250, but the current valuation is anyone’s guess.

For collectors chasing a Ferrari that turns heads even among multi-million-dollar hypercars, the Conciso is a rolling conversation starter.
