Ford Won’t Say If The $29,945 Fathom Can Tow Your Trailer

Ford has confirmed a starting price of $29,945 for the Fathom, including a $1,595 destination charge. However, the company has not published a towing rating for the electric pickup truck. Ford positions the Fathom for daily driving, cargo runs, and light hauling, but has not confirmed EPA range, battery capacity, horsepower, payload, or towing capacity. An EV industry executive recently downplayed the importance of heavy-duty towing for the truck, sparking controversy. Ford aims to sell over 100,000 Fathoms in its first year, a goal only Tesla has achieved with a single EV nameplate in the US. The Fathom is built on a universal EV platform and targets drivers who have not yet switched to electric or hybrid power. Ford wants the Fathom to appeal to occasional towers, but has not provided any official numbers to back up this claim. The company is building the Fathom at the Louisville Assembly Plant, with production-qualified parts and prototype builds planned for the first quarter of 2027. Preorders and the full reveal are expected in early 2027, with customer deliveries in late 2027.
