This Open-Top Ferrari 550 Restomod Packs a V12 and Manual Gearbox

Touring Superleggera has unveiled the Veloce12 Aperta, a head-turning restomod of the Ferrari 550 Maranello that trades the coupe’s roof for open-air thrills. This isn’t just a convertible—it’s a rolling homage to classic grand touring, blending a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V12 with a six-speed manual transmission, a combination that’s increasingly rare in today’s performance car landscape. The V12 churns out 523 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, sending power to the rear wheels through a traditional shifter mounted on the center console. Performance figures hit 0–62 mph in 4.4 seconds and a 180-mph top speed, but the real magic lies in the analog driving experience. The Aperta’s roof setup ditches the usual soft-top for two lightweight removable panels that stow onboard, leaving the cabin bathed in sunlight. Behind the seats, an aluminum hoop—Touring calls it a “crown”—adds structural elegance while contributing to the car’s surprising 11.5 cubic feet of luggage space, enough for a weekend getaway. The interior is a study in bespoke luxury, with hand-stitched leather, burgundy accents, and a “Aperta” script etched in 24-karat gold. Luggage sets from Rimowa and leather cases by Giosa Milano add to the exclusivity. The Aperta is the third model in Touring Superleggera’s Veloce12 family, following the Coupé and Barchetta, all rooted in the Ferrari 550 Maranello. It’s designed as a “weekender” for two, prioritizing unhurried road trips over outright speed. The price hasn’t been officially confirmed, but Touring hints it will exceed $428,000 before accounting for the donor Ferrari, likely pushing it well beyond half a million euros. The example shown at Monterey Car Week is finished in Alba White, a nod to Touring’s 1960s heritage and the Maserati 3500 GT. This restomod isn’t just a modern reinterpretation—it’s a celebration of Touring Superleggera’s 100th anniversary, founded in 1926 by Felice Bianchi Anderloni and Gaetano Ponzoni.
