JBS NV has announced that Wesley Batista Filho will become the company’s global CEO in January, marking the return of a Batista family member to the top role after approximately eight years. Batista Filho, the grandson of JBS founder Jose Batista Sobrinho and son of former top executive Wesley Batista, has spent the past three years leading the company’s U.S. division. He will succeed Gilberto Tomazoni, who will remain with the company as vice chairman. The leadership change is significant, as JBS is the world’s largest meat supplier and has been expanding its operations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The company has also been focused on the U.S. market, having listed shares in the country and grown its U.S. division under Batista Filho’s leadership. The transition was planned for years, according to Tomazoni, and Batista Filho will now take over a company that is increasingly focused on the U.S. market. The future leadership of the U.S. operation has not been announced. Batista Filho is part of a younger generation of the Batista family, which has been growing its investments and expanding its global presence over the past two decades. As the new global CEO, he will oversee a company that has made significant deals in recent years, including expansions in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The U.S. business remains a key focus for the company, with JBS USA Holdings ranking No. 86 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest private carriers in North America.
