Joe Rocket’s return to the U.S. market after two decades of separation from its Canadian arm couldn’t have come at a better time.

With a fresh lineup and a renewed focus, the brand has rolled out the Ion mesh jacket—a summer-ready piece designed to keep riders cool without skimping on protection.

Priced at $160 MSRP, the Ion delivers CE Level 2 back protection and CE Level 1 armor for elbows and shoulders, a rarity at this price point.

The shell blends Joe Rocket’s proprietary Rock Tex 600 textile in high-abrasion zones with two types of Free-Air mesh: standard mesh in the chest and back, and the more open Free-Air Plus mesh along the sides and underarms for maximum airflow.

The fit is intentionally generous, accommodating body armor or airbag vests without feeling restrictive.

Adjustability is handled via hook-and-loop cuffs, waist straps, and three-position snaps on the upper sleeves, ensuring the armor stays put during rides.

Storage is generous, with two outer zippered waist pockets, dual inner Napoleon pockets (one with a key clip), and a hidden slot behind the cargo pocket for an extra faceshield.

In testing, the Ion handled brutal heat in the San Fernando Valley—100°F in the shade and 140°F pavement—while still providing ample airflow, even at city speeds. Night rides in the 70s remained comfortable with just a cotton T-shirt underneath.

The jacket comes in six colorways, including a sharp Navy/Black/Red option, and is available in sizes SM-4XL, plus tall sizes (though not all colors are offered in every size).
