Slate, a Jeff Bezos-backed startup, has announced the pricing for its electric pickup and SUVs. The electric pickup starts at $24,950 before fees and taxes, with a projected range of 205 miles on the standard battery. The company is taking a minimalist approach, omitting features like power windows and a key fob to keep costs low. The SUV conversion variants, the Squareback and Fastback, start at $29,950 and $31,950 respectively. Slate is betting that customers will prefer to buy a basic vehicle and add features over time, rather than financing a fully loaded one. The company has around 180,000 reservations, but converting these into actual sales will be a challenge. If successful, Slate could prove that affordability is more important than features like horsepower or touchscreen size. The first customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2026, and customers can now place a preorder with a $300 non-refundable deposit.
