Google Earth Now Has A Browser Flight Simulator Mode

Google Earth has introduced a browser-based flight simulator mode, making it accessible to a wider audience. This feature was previously exclusive to the desktop application since its launch in 2007.

Users can access the simulator on the Google Earth website with any compatible browser by clicking ‘Explore Earth’ and then selecting ‘Flight simulator’ from the ‘Tools’ drop-down menu. The simulator has rudimentary arrow key controls, but users can also click and drag with the mouse for more responsive input.

However, the graphics are not as impressive as Microsoft Flight Simulator, with blurry terrain and buildings popping in as the simulator loads objects and textures dynamically. The feature’s help page notes that flying at extreme speeds or over low-bandwidth connections may result in temporary loading delays.

Alternatively, users can turn off satellite imagery and fly through a 3D map with blank polygonal structures. This announcement comes as Microsoft Flight Simulator is releasing a US National Park update on July 4, featuring improved details for over 30 national parks and introducing the Goodyear Blimp.
