Carvana, the online used car retailer, has made a significant move into the new car market by quietly purchasing several Stellantis dealerships. Despite its past struggles, the company has transformed and is now valued more than the ‘Big Three’ automakers in Detroit.

The reason behind this shift is not yet publicly explained, but Carvana is expected to disclose its plans at an upcoming media event. Within the last year, Carvana has acquired seven Stellantis-branded dealerships, including a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Casa Grande, AZ, and its most recent acquisition in Avon Lake, OH.

These dealerships now operate under the Carvana brand, with the Arizona store reportedly selling over 700 new vehicles in the last month, a significant increase from the 30-50 sales per month before Carvana’s purchase. Stellantis is currently the only brand under Carvana’s new car dealership umbrella, but the company’s success may lead to the inclusion of other brands in the future.

Carvana’s approach to car sales differs from traditional dealerships, with online purchases and delivery options available, but the company’s new car dealerships still offer in-person test drives and service departments. This move has caught the attention of other Stellantis dealers, with the National Dealer Council Chairman stating that competition is good and that traditional dealerships may need to adapt to remain relevant.
